Menu at Steinweg expanded since Sunday
Gera. As announced, Isis Friedberger and Anne Kathrin Hildebrand opened their restaurant “Mame's” in Steinweg Gera on September 1st. They are now moving from the old catering business to day-to-day business. The specialty bowls and wraps are not only available to order for your own party, but can also be enjoyed on site in Steinweg from Monday to Friday. “Of course we will also be open for special events in the city center and in Steinweg,” announces Isis Friedberger.
Church quintet in summer in Gera
The tour guides of the city of Gera cordially invite you to a special city tour lasting about two hours. The fifth and final tour of the five-part series CHURCH QUINTET starts on Tuesday, September 3rd, at 3.30 p.m., at the St. Elisabeth Church, Nicolaistrasse/Kleiststrasse in 07545 Gera. At the beginning of the tour there is an insight into the church. This is followed by a walk through the city with the destination of the St. Trinitatis Church. Along the way there is interesting information about the city's history,
A church service and church music will take place in the St. Trinitatis Church from 5 p.m. The ensemble “parto bianco” will be playing chamber music. Tickets cost 6 euros and can be purchased on site from the tour guide Heidrun Heusinger.
News at the meeting point library
Gera. “The Murdered Revolution – Chile 1973” is the subject of the next library meeting on Tuesday, September 3rd at 5 p.m. in the Gera City Library. Marlon Topper gave a lecture to commemorate the military coup on September 11th, 1973 in Chile, which, supported by the USA, brought an abrupt end to the democratic government of the socialist Salvador Allende. The speaker has researched the topic thoroughly using a variety of sources and interviews with contemporary witnesses. He sheds light on the history, background and consequences of the bloody coup 51 years ago. Who was Salvador Allende and the Unidad Popular? What kind of system did the socialist government want to build? And how did it come to pass that this great experiment was brutally ended despite strong support from the population? Admission to the event is free.
Archive management in the Stasi authority
Gera. The Federal Archives/Stasi Records Archive Gera at Hermann-Drechsler-Straße 1 in Untermhaus invites interested citizens to the monthly archive tour on Wednesday, September 4th, 4 p.m. The tour will take place at the historic site – the former
Gera District Administration of the GDR State Security Service – impressions of the documents of the Ministry for State Security in the former Gera district and information about the secret police work in the region. The guests experienced, for example, how index cards were used, why the Stasi systematically checked the mail and how the files in the archive are handled today.
After the tour, you can visit the exhibition “A Century is Visited. Snapshots from Germany”. Photographs from the Federal Archives' image archive provide insights into everyday life, working and living conditions in Germany in the last century and summarize outstanding events in German history in fast motion. There is also the option of submitting an application to view Stasi documents.
A valid ID card is required to apply. Staff will be happy to provide advice. Admission to the tour is free.
Jazz in the old bath
Gera. On Wednesday, September 4th, at 8 p.m., the Häselburg Cultural Center invites you to jazz in the old Wannenbad at Florian-Geyer-Straße 17. Bubble Wrap Trap will be playing humorous jazz rock from Israel. The musical journey takes you from Africa to Brooklyn and through punk, rock, avant-garde jazz and oriental music. You can experience Tomer Zuzovsky (bass), Eyal Arav (piano), Uria Hadad (guitar), Noam Shapira (saxophone), Guy Ben Ami (drums).
