Deutsche Bahn continues to work on modernizing its signal box technology. Commuters between Cologne and Bonn have to prepare for train cancellations.
Deutsche Bahn will continue to build in the coming year. The renewal of the signal box technology on the section from Bonn main station to the “Neuer Weg” depot, on the border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, also affects rail traffic between Cologne and Bonn.
Between January 3rd, 9 p.m. and February 27th, 5 a.m., work will be carried out on the electronic signal boxes “Köln Hbf”, “Linker Rhein” and “Bonn-Bad Godesberg”, as Deutsche Bahn explains in a statement .
This has the following effects on train traffic:
Long-distance transport:
From Friday, December 20th (9 p.m.) to Thursday, February 27th (5 a.m.) Long-distance trains are usually rerouted via the right bank of the Rhine, resulting in travel time changes and stop cancellations. Some trains are canceled on parts of the route or the entire route.
Local transport:
Due to the work, there will be extensive timetable changes in regional transport on the lines RE 5 (RRX), RB 26, RB 30 and RB 48 partly from now on December 20th to February 27th. The effects vary depending on the construction phase and line:
