Update v72 brings PC pairing and improved hand controls

Meta has released a new software update for its Quest series of virtual reality glasses. Version 72 introduces several improvements that optimize the user experience of the VR glasses and offer new functions.

One of the most important innovations concerns the connection between the Quest and Windows PCs. Users can now connect their VR glasses to a computer much more easily. The “Remote Desktop” function makes it possible to establish the connection by looking at the PC and pressing a button. The prerequisite is the installation of the Mixed Reality Link app and Windows 11 version 22H2 or newer.

Keyboard recognition has been fundamentally revised. The system can now capture almost any physical keyboard and display it in the virtual environment. This is done through a passthrough window that overlays the real keyboard into the VR environment. Previously, this feature was limited to select keyboard models.

The update made hand controls more precise. The hand cursor responds more stable when navigating, grabbing and moving windows. The new “Hand Ray Visualization” function supports the targeted selection of objects. The hand control now works reliably even in well-maintained rooms.

Meta has also expanded the social component. The People app now supports live captions during conversations. The Instagram integration has been expanded to include direct messages. A new Media Gallery app enables clear management of photos, videos and screenshots, including spatial recordings.

The update will be rolled out gradually, which is why some functions will not be immediately available to all users. Distribution takes place automatically via the quest system.
