How can you recruit your own cybersecurity specialists?
If you really want to acquire suitable skilled workers yourself, you have to start with training and promote yourself in appropriate courses of study. However, the war for talent is extremely tough because universities in Germany train far too little to meet the growing demand. This means that even cybersecurity companies have to relocate their low-level activities to cheaper foreign countries, such as Poland, India or Nepal.
In order to eliminate this shortage and get more students interested in the topic, fundamental decisions are required. Female students in particular have hardly been found in this area so far. For example, the proportion of men in the IT security course in Hamburg is 99 percent.
We need to position cybersecurity as a strategically important issue in Germany and build our own ecosystem. This requires universities, research and practical customers.
